Having graduated University with a degree in Sports Journalism, I began my career at professional Rugby League Club, Hull FC, in a content creation and marketing capacity. As well as managing daily media relations on both a national and regional scale, I have devised and steered strategic communications for Board members, CEO’s and executive management through several crises and the Covid-19 pandemic; experiences which laid the foundations in my understanding of the value of clear, judicious and transparent comms.

I have overseen the planning and execution of digital marketing strategies and the supporting content creation across online platforms, to deliver key commercial objectives year to year and boost engagement to six figure online followings.

Key professional successes include doubling Cambridge United’s Twitter and Instagram following, achieving top three status in the fan engagement index beating every Premier League side in the process, and developing a marketing campaign to unlock the potential of a new matchday streaming service for supporters which led to over £250,000 in revenue being generated.

Nick Fairbairn


Having followed my mum into the world of journalism at an early age, I spent the best part of twenty years at the BBC – cutting my teeth as a teenage freelancer (green as you like) before becoming a reporter and eventually a Senior Journalist and Editor.

I witnessed first-hand the changing face of media consumption and, as digital media became more prominent, I helped devise social media strategy, including the creation and delivery of content for all channels as well as the BBC website.

I joined Cambridge United (scratching a long-held itch to work within the game that I’ve been besotted with since a toddler) in 2017 as Head of Partnerships, before being promoted to Head of Commercial where I led the overall commercial operation – securing numerous sponsors and increasing commercial revenues, as well as overseeing and helping to devise the Club’s communications strategy.

I have built my working life on the values that underpin Front Foot Creative – good communication, trust and integrity – the ability to deliver as promised to the highest possible standard and build long-lasting, meaningful client relationships.

I began my career as a business development director for a property damage and home restoration company. In 2011, I launched a leak detection business which has grown into a hugely successful industry leader, servicing a broad range of clients across multiple sectors.

Beginning my career in 2006 when I contributed as a Camera and Motion Control Operator for the Oscar winning stop-motion animation feature Peter and the Wolf, I took the plunge into freelance work ten years later.

Through a five-year period I was fortunate enough to gain experience across various industries, and work with fashion brands like Pepe Jeans, Footlocker and Next, in the music industry with Morcheeba, Blitz Vega and James TW, as well as large scale multi-nationals such as Accenture, Collins Aerospace and Liberty Steel.

A week where no day looks the same, and where every shoot requires a different skill is what drives me. I love the opportunity to get creative and be dynamic with both my camera work and post-production. Whether that’s filming a shot on my inline skates, working closely with actors, capturing breath-taking locations or even cracking a script on the most complex of topics to best tell a story through video.

All of which fits perfectly when working across the wide-ranging client base of Front Foot Creative.
